Spirulina
Spirulina gets its name from the Latin word "spirula" which means
"small spiral shell". It is a cyano-bacterium (another word for blue-algae).
Spirulina grows in warm water and doesn't have roots, leaves or stems.
It adapts to heat which ensures that Spirulina retains its nutrients and has
a long shelf live.
Benefits of Spirulina:
- 8 types of amino acids which are the building blocks of protein, needed to support the body's organs, including the heart, brain, kidneys, liver and sex organs.
- Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an Omega 6 fatty acid known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Spirulina can assist in the alleviation of arthritis because of GLA.
- Antioxidants such as beta-carotene. Beta-carotene strengthens the immune system, and fights cell damage from free radicals. Also, beta-carotene can help prevent cancer and slow down the progression of cataracts.
- Consumers report that it increases energy levels. Spirulina assists with the body's cellular communication process, and it reads and repairs DNA. It may assist in the reduction of cholesterol and body acidity.
- Easily digested and detoxifies the body.
- Those who suffer from anemia, a deficiency in red blood cells and/or hemoglobin, respond well to the Vitamin B12, folic acid and chlorophyll that is found in Spirulina. In fact this super-food is the richest source of Vitamin B12. (It was once thought that Vitamin B12 was only available in animal products.)
Chlorella
Chlorella's name comes from the Greek word "chloros" meaning green
and the Latin word "ella" meaning small. It was named Chlorella because
of the large amount of Chlorophyll it contains. A single-celled green algae
that grows naturally in fresh water, Chlorella is a very popular food
supplement throughout Asia.
Benefits of Chlorella:
- 58% protein which is needed to support organs such as the heart, lungs, brain, liver, kidney and sex organs.
- The Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) which boosts the immune system, may help reverse the effects of cancers, may assist in the treatment of brain disorders and may repair nerve tissue.
- Essential fatty acids (healthy fat) which the body needs to maintain the heart, nervous system and brain. It may assist in reducing bad cholesterol.
- Loaded with minerals. In fact, one ounce of Chlorella has more calcium than the same amount of milk! Because of this, it can help build strong bones while assisting in the reversal of mineral deficiencies.
- Anti-cancer properties - It is known to increase the production of interferon. Interferon is a protein that is made and released by lymphocytes. It causes the body to react if viruses, bacteria, parasites or tumor cells are present.
- All the Vitamin Bs, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E that are vital to the immune system and to increase the body's resistance to colds and even the flu.
- Pepsin, chlorophyllase and digestive enzymes. These are important for digestion and elimination. Chlorella can be effective for bad breath and foul smelling stools. Some have claimed that it assists with the relief of constipation because it promotes healthy bacteria.
